Description

D8000 Pro Edition.

Introducing the D8000 Pro Edition limited-edition, top-of-the-range bestseller helmet.

With sound quality intact, we’ve set the D8000 Pro to use the Air Film Damping System (AFDS) for the exclusive use of professionals and at the request of sound engineers who want to hear sound at volumes higher than ordinary consumers.

Human hearing characteristics, which mean that lower frequencies are easier to hear as the volume increases, were also taken into account.

As a result, compared with the D8000, which is particularly well-suited to classical music and other music with a wide dynamic range, the limited-edition D8000 Pro offers a sound quality perceived as clearer when listening to rock, pop and other music with a narrow dynamic range.

Features

A combination of the delicate high registers of the planar magnetic models and the volume and spacious bass of the dynamic models.

“Volume and bass with a feeling of space”.

In conventional planar magnetic models, the amplitude increases towards low frequencies, and as the diaphragm comes into contact with the magnets, it has been necessary to raise the bass frequency to a level that the transducer can reproduce.

To compensate for the lack of bass, the inside of the pads was hermetically sealed, and the front section of the diaphragm became a closed space.

This is the same principle that enables earphones with sealed tips to reproduce low frequencies despite their reduced size.

Sealing the inside of the ear cushions produces bass in the lower frequency range; this becomes the bass produced in a sealed space similar to headphones.

In the D8000 model, the problem of the diaphragm coming into contact with the magnets has been solved with the AFDS (Air Film Damping System), lowering the bass frequencies that the transducer can reproduce.

With breathable pads, it’s possible to produce bass with a volume and sense of space that can only be achieved with higher dynamic models.

“Volume and bass with a feeling of space”.

In high-frequency reproduction, the lightness of the diaphragm is the most important factor.

The D8000’s diaphragm is a third lighter than that of other dynamic models of the same diameter.

A super-thin aluminum spiral has been etched onto the diaphragm’s extremely light film, eliminating the need for adhesive between the spiral and the diaphragm in dynamic models – an adhesive that has a very negative effect on sound quality.

With the D8000 Pro edition, the problems caused by the adhesive have been radically resolved, and the reproduction of a subtle high-frequency sound has been achieved.

“The combination of the subtle high frequencies of the planar magnetic model with the volume and space-feeling bass of the dynamic model.”

Thanks to the combination of the subtle high frequencies of the planar magnetic model, the volume of the dynamic model and the open bass tones of the D8000, you’ll discovernew nuances in the music you’re used to listening to.

You’ll want to listen to your favorite tunes over and over again.

With this product, you’ll find that high sound quality stimulates the desire to feel the deeper aspects of music.

The recently developed AFDS: Air Film Damping System.

The transducer of conventional planar magnetic headphones is normally designed to withstand a higher limit of the lowest frequencies it can reproduce, to avoid the diaphragm coming into contact with the magnet when the playback volume is high.

To solve this problem, we carried out diaphragm simulation measurements usingfinite element methods and laser Doppler devices, and developed a new diaphragm technology called AFDS – Air Film Damping System.

In this way, we have been able to overcome the shortcoming of planar magnetic transducers: poor bass reproduction. This technology can be seen as a reinvention of planar magnetic models.

In the limited edition of the D8000 Pro, the problem of the diaphragm coming into contact with the magnets has been solved with AFDS (Air Film Damping System),lowering the limit of bass frequencies that the transducer can reproduce.

Combined with breathable pads, the bass can now produce an open sound that can normally only be achieved with a high-quality dynamic transducer.

A machined aluminum-magnesium alloy case.

To establish AFDS, an extremely high level of precision is required, compared with conventional transducers.

For this reason, thealuminum-magnesium alloy has been machined to a high degree of precision.

The black is finished with a layer of leather, like that used on high-end cameras.

Silver is applied with an anodized alumite aluminum finish.

Manufactured in our own factory to perfection.

The limited edition D8000 Pro is manufactured at our Kawasaki headquarters.

In addition to the precision of the individual parts, the finesse of the assembly process depends on the precision of the tools, called jigs, that contribute to it.

In order to fine-tune even the smallest imperfections in jig accuracy during the assembly process, we design and manufacture our own production and measuring jigs.

We have developed in-house manufacturing equipment, such as a diaphragm forming machine and a diaphragm tension meter, specifically for the D8000 series.

To create genuine quality products, it’s necessary to go right to the root of the parts manufacturing process, to the raw materials. One of the advantages of “manufacturing in Japan” is the possibility of obtaining the collaboration of manufacturers as close as possible to the raw materials.

By maintaining control over the entire chain, from raw material subcontracting to assembly, we’ve succeeded in producing top-quality products.

A design that lasts longer and is easy to repair.

Repairs and future developments must be easy to carry out.

The majority of parts have therefore been designed for easy assembly and disassembly.

This ensures that the product can continue to be used for many years after purchase.

Newly developed open bearings.

Forboth sealed and open-type headphones, sealing the ear cushions results in a widening of the reproduced frequencies towards lower frequencies that the transducer itself cannot reproduce.

However, to achieve a high quality of expression of the natural bass distribution of the original sound, it is necessary for the transducer itself to have the capacity to reproduce low frequencies, as well as to use breathable pads that are not hermetically sealed.

All conventional planar magnetic models, as well as many dynamic models, suffer from a lack of low-frequency response if the bearings are not hermetically sealed.

In the D8000 model, AFDS has enabled the bass range to be extended, allowing sufficient bass reproduction even with non-hermetically sealed pads, through transducer capacity alone.

The pads, which havea strong influence on sound quality, have been developed specifically for the D8000, using breathable foam and special fibers.

For the D8000 Pro edition, great attention has been paid to a pleasant texture and product longevity.

Comments on sound quality.

While retaining the superior characteristics of the D8000, we have taken into account the demands of sound engineers to achieve optimum frequency balance even at high volumes.

The Pro edition stands out for its ability to make vocals and individual instruments hear clearly and distinctly, indispensable for a pop or rock mix.
