Description

MATRIX MS-1 Network Audio Player WiFi Airplay 2 DLNA Roon DAC Symmetrical 2x AK4499EX+AK4191 PCM 24Bit 768kHz DSD512 MQA

The Matrix MS-1audio network player is an extremely complete streamer that forms part of the brand’s M series with the MP-1 preamplifier and MA-1 power amplifier.

The new range features a new design, both in terms of appearance and internal structure.

In fact, the MS-1 network player features a symmetrical architecture with a combo of AKM AK4499EX + AK4191 chips per channel, enabling it to support high-resolution PCM streams up to 24bit 768kHz, native DSD up to DSD512 and MQA.

An attractive display with touch-sensitive controls and the MA Player solution, coupled with the MA Remote App 4.0, provide a pleasant user experience. Numerous digital inputs (USB-B, Toslink optical, coaxial, storage device via USB-A, SSD slot) and analog inputs (balanced XLR, RCA and phono) enable the MS-1 streamer to be integrated into any audio system configuration.

There’s also an I2S LVDS input and output on HDMI port, a 10MHz clock connector and a trigger input and output. As for line outputs, the essentials are there, with stereo RCA and stereo balanced XLR.

Matrix’s MS-1 is an extremely versatile, high-performance audio network player that will delight the most demanding audiophiles.

Matrix MS-1: AKM AK4499EX+AK4191 double DAC combo

The MS-1 is the brand’s first product based on the AKM AK4499EX + AK4191 high-end DAC chip solution.

Each AKM chip combo works independently per channel for an unrivalled level of precision. The MS-1’s architecture is therefore symmetrical, with the DACs operating in dual mono.

This enables the MS-1 to process signals over a wide dynamic range and retain the finest details of the original signal. It supports high-resolution PCM sampling rates up to 24bit 768kHz, native DSD up to DSD512 and MQA.

Matrix MS-1 MA PLAYER: a sublime interface

The soul of the MS-1 network player lies largely in its MA Player interface, an optimized Linux-based software package specially developed for audio applications.

On the MS-1, the on-screen interface gives you access to essential information and controls for a pleasant user experience.

As well as being ergonomic, this interface is also aesthetically pleasing.

Matrix MS-1: a multitude of digital sources and inputs

The MS-1 streamer gives you access to a multitude of audio sources, including numerous local network streaming services and protocols such as Airplay 2, UPnP, DLNA, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, as well as high-resolution online streaming services like HighRES AUDIO, Tidal and Qobuz.

Of course, you can also take advantage of numerous online radio stations (Radio Paradise, VTuner, etc.) and locally stored files on SSDs, USB storage devices and NAS via LAN.

On the rear panel of the MS-1, numerous digital inputs let you connect it to any type of source, such as a CD player, video game console, TV and, of course, your computer, tablet and smartphone.

Matrix MS-1: PCM resampling and DSD conversion

An asynchronous DSD conversion and PCM upsampling system enables all audio data to be processed digitally.

Thanks to asynchronous resampling and interpolation operations, noise is isolated and detail enhanced.

The data is then converted to DSD, enhancing the density and depth of the final sound reproduction.

Different oversampling and PCM and DSD conversion processing configurations are available, allowing you to experiment with the possible differences in the final rendering of your audio signal.

You can adjust these settings to suit not only your own preferences, but also the type of music being played.

Matrix MS-1: I2S LVDS HDMI input/output

To complete the MS-1’s digital interface, Matrix has integrated an I2S LVDS input and output port into its streamer.

The I2S LVDS output port lets you connect the MS-1 to an external DAC to try out other audio system configurations and modify your listening experience.

The signal from sources connected to the MS-1’s various analog inputs can also be retrieved via the I2S LVDS port.

Matrix MS-1: analog inputs

The complete MS-1 network player features several analog inputs: balanced stereo XLR, stereo RCA and phono.

The phono input supports MM and MC cells for compatibility with any turntable.

The incoming signal on the analog inputs is converted into a digital signal using a high-performance ADC and PCM filter.

High-precision clock

A high-precision internal clock with low phase noise enables extremely low jitter of 45fs.

However, if you have a more accurate external 10MHz holorge, you can always use it with the MS-1.

LAN and SFP network port

A LAN port is backed up by an SFP port for high-frequency interference isolation via a fiber-optic connection.

Fiber optics provide electrical isolation between your network devices and the MS-1, ensuring interference-free sound.

SLOT SSD

An NVMe SSD slot means you don’t need an external hard drive.

Storage can be carried out via network sharing or by copy/paste from external storage to SSD storage using the MA Remote application.

Matrix MS-1: a high-performance power stage

Matrix has chosen to integrate two high-power toroidal transformers into the MS-1.

These toroidal transformers feature square copper wires for greater available conductive surface area, higher current capacity and lower resistance.

This provides better transient response and a certain richness in the low frequencies.

Mundorf M-Lytic AG series filter capacitors and a battery of low-noise LDOs provide a clean, stable power supply to each MS-1 circuit unit.
