A new audiophile-quality classic, wireless headphones whose sound is based on the latest research findings in acoustic engineering and psychoacoustics.

The ZE3000 takes its name from the E3000the brand’s most acclaimed wired headphones, which have sold hundreds of thousands of units since their launch in 2017 and won an unprecedented ten consecutive gold medals at Japan’s top audio awards, the VGP.

 

At the time of the E3000’s launch, most headphones in the same price range were designed to make a striking impression on first listening, with an ostentatious sound that emphasizes bass and high frequencies.

 

When we began designing the ZE3000, we undoubtedly set ourselves the goal of surpassing the sound quality of the E3000. However, it would be difficult to achieve the same sound quality with wireless headphones as with wired headphones due to several limitations.

 

The first challenge is that wireless headphones have batteries, electronic circuit boards and antennas that take up most of the space inside the housing. This means there’s less freedom to create the perfect acoustic chamber for high-quality sound.

 

What’s more, the sealing characteristic most often expected forces the housing to be completely sealed without a single vent to regulate air pressure inside the acoustic chamber; the result is that low-frequency sound becomes overwhelming and leads to a degradation in overall clarity due to the auditory masking effect.

 

A common countermeasure of other brands is to increase the presence of high frequencies to regain clarity, but this leads to fatigue after long periods of listening.

 

To avoid this problem, by making full use of the unoccupied acoustic space inside the ZE3000 and our knowledge of fluid mechanics engineering, we have introduced a new damping system – the f-LINK damping system – which optimizes the pressure in the acoustic space inside the earphone housing to create a sound equivalent to that of wired headphones without the need for external vents.

 

This system delivers both sealed performance and well-controlled sound production in the low-frequency range, to achieve the E3000’s iconic natural sound production in truly wireless form.

Features.

 

A new “f-Core for Wireless” transducer for ultra-low distortion.

Wireless headphones often rely on software equalization to adjust the sound characteristic, generating problems that can be a side-effect and lead to a tiring listening experience.

 

With the ZE3000, instead of relying entirely on the equalizer, we’ve improved the fundamental performance of the transducers and optimized the acoustic space inside the earpieces to perfect the quality of the sound so that it’s satisfying enough to listen to, and the equalizer is used only to make precise, effective corrections in narrow bands.

 

However, to get the most out of this one-off equalizer correction, you need a drive unit with extremely accurate sound pressure frequency characteristics. If there is a variation of around 3dB, which is the typical accuracy, the equalizer correction will give unnatural results.

 

To solve this problem, we developed a new “f-Core for Wireless transducer, which was built from the ground up to achieve ultra-low distortion.

 

In general, the membrane of an earphone is manufactured by monolithic injection molding, i.e. the plastic material is injected into a mold whose center and periphery are formed at the same time.

 

In the case of small-diameter transducers, tangential corrugations are normally added to the edge to stabilize the larger amplitude movement, resulting in a rotational movement of the diaphragm that causes distortion.

 

In the case of “f-Core for Wireless”, the center is made of a special resin that is both light and hard.

 

The circumference of the diaphragm is made of a special, extremely flexible silicone, which ensures smooth, distortion-free diaphragm movement.

 

Thanks to the combination of these 2 special materials, despite its 6 mm diameter, the effect zone at its center is equivalent to that of a 9 mm diameter injection-molded monolithic membrane.

 

This also helps reduce distortion.

 

What’s more, the special silicone surround and center are directly molded together without the use of adhesives, improving assembly precision and considerably reducing weight, thus helping to reduce distortion.

The ZE3000 features a new damping system, the “f-LINK damping system “, which optimizes the pressure in the acoustic space inside the headphone housing to create a sound equivalent to that of wired headphones without the need for external vents.

 

This allows proper control of low frequencies that were difficult to achieve with the sound quality design of wireless headphones, and reproduces vocals that tend to be distant in the balance intended by the artist.

 

Even in the reproduction of low frequencies such as drum hits and bass lines, combined with the ultra-low distortion of the drive unit, we’ve achieved a high quality that lets you feel the fine, detailed expression of the bass range.

Minimal-oppression design for a custom fit.

The ZE3000 achieves a superior fit based on the housing design, which is the optimal solution for the in-ear fit established with our classic wired headphones. The comfort of wearing the earphones depends on how unobtrusive they are.

 

At first glance, the holding method with the repulsive force of the housing, like the choice of an organic, ergonomic shape, seems correct, but it still exerts a force on the ear, straining it without realizing it, and fatigue accumulates.

 

Compared to the organic shape that touches the ear over a large surface area, the shape that limits the contact area aims to provide a comfortable fit without feeling oppressive.

 

The ZE3000 can be held at three points for a stable fit.

The 1st point in the pavilion cavity .

The 2nd point is at the tip of the ear.

And the 3rd point at the tragus.

As a result, they are suitable for all ears. If there’s no oppressive feeling at all points of contact, you’ ll get the impression that the earphones are very comfortable, and you’ll feel like youre wearing them as if they were customized just for you.

Earmolds for optimum wearing comfort.

5 sizes of “TYPE E Truly Wireless Exclusive Edition ” tips, newly designed by final, are included as accessories.

 

Competing earmolds are generally shaped to exert high pressure in the ear canal, causing pain and fatigue after prolonged wear.

 

The new “TYPE E Truly Wireless Exclusive Edition” earmolds are of a type that adapts gently to the ear canal entrance, so there’s no foreign body sensation.

By minimizing the sensation of adjustment itself, we have achieved the “supreme sensation of adjustment”.

 

What’s more, since the core color of adjacent sizes is different (ZE3000 Black: alternating dark and light gray, ZE3000 White: alternating light and white), it’ s now easy to distinguish between sizes.

Although the headphone body and charging case are lightweight resin housings, they feature a soft-textured Shibo* coating reminiscent of high-end camera parts.

Automatic pairing function.

 

Equipped with an ” automatic pairing ” function that automatically connects to the paired device simply by opening the cover of the charging case.

Single-ear mode.

 

Simply replace an earphone in the case, and the music automatically switches to “single-ear mode” without interruption.

 

In“single-ear mode“, stereo playback switches to monaural* playback, allowing youto listen to music with just one ear without any discomfort.

 

This functionis useful when you want to listen to music without muting external sounds, for example when you listen to music in one ear while cooking.

 

*Monaural playback is a method in which the left and right audio signals are combined and played back through a single earphone.

User’s guide.

 

Switch on the headphones.

 

Opening the cover of the charging case automatically turns on the headphones.

 

If the headphones are switched off when not in the charging case, press the touch control panel once to switch them on.

 

Switch off the headphones.

 

Return the earphones to a sufficiently charged charging case and close the cover to switch off the earphones.

 

To switch off the headphones without the charging case, touch and hold the touch-sensitive control panel for about 3 seconds until 2 beeps sound.

 

Pairing method.

 

1. Open the cover of the charging caseand the LED on the earphones lights up redfor about 3 seconds. They then switch to pairing mode, and the LED on each side flashes alternately blue and red.

 

2. Activate the Bluetooth function on your smartphone, etc., and select “ZE3000” when it appears on the screen.

 

Pairing is complete when “ZE3000 Connected” appears on the display of the device to be connected.

Sound quality.
