STAN GETZ AND CHET BAKER / Stan Meets Chet

2LP 180g - 45RPM
Edition Limitée Numérotée

ORG is proud to present the ORG Ultimate Edition, a brand new series of great LP titles from the Impulse, Verve jazz and Chess blues catalogues. Cut at 45RPM by Bernie Grundman on his newly upgraded mastering system and tube powered lathe, these LPs will be plated and pressed by Pallas in Germany and sleeved in deluxe heavy duty gatefold jackets printed in Europe. They represent the very finest examples of the vinyl LP format available today.

Bernie Grundman Mastering recently upgraded his LP mastering and cutting system prior to starting work on the ORG LP reissues. These upgrades, together with the plating and pressing from Pallas Germany, will give the ORG LPs a sound never experienced before.

Bernie Grundman's Updated Mastering System:
• New customized dual mono power supplies
• New tape pre-amplifier: an upgraded hybrid design with single-ended in-out that is specifically triode on the input for the gain and EQ and feeds into a discreet solid state circuit that drives the output
• Brand new tape heads for the Studer playback tape machine including a complete hardwire with Cardas cables
• The power supplies on tube cutter amps have been updated and rewired with Cardas cable on the head leads and feedback
• The Studer in Bernie's cutting room is essentially transport only i.e. it is used for the superb stability of its mechanical parts. All the electronics (from the tape heads through to the cutting head on the lathe) have now been totally customized and hard-wired point to point
• The tube cutting amps used for the ORG LP reissues have just been re-tubed with ex-US military grade tubes from Sylvania

The pairing of Stan Getz and Chet Baker in 1958 in Chicago for an LP seemed like such a natural thing, both being golden boys enjoying their heydays with lyrically clean, brilliant solo styles. So it is odd that they teamed up in the studio only one other time, twenty-five years later, in their long careers. Which makes this a summit meeting to savor. Their playing on "I'll Remember April" is a study in contrasts: Getz's long lines against Baker's shorter phrases. Baker delivers his best solo here, keeping to a medium tempo, while Getz gives his all on his adaptation of "Cherokee," which he cranks up to a furious tempo. The proceedings are fueled throughout by a solid Chicago rhythm section rarely heard on Verve.
